

John William Deuel, a cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2025, at the age of 95. He was born on July 2, 1930, in Portland, Oregon, to Luther and Edith (Ross) Deuel. John’s life was a testament to love, resilience, and the spirit of giving.
John grew up in Oregon, where he was known for his infectious smile and an unwavering sense of happiness. He had a big heart, caring not only for his loved ones but also for friends, neighbors, and even strangers. His generosity of spirit touched the lives of many, as he devoted his life to helping others in any way he could.
In pursuit of serving his country, John made the courageous decision to enlist in the Air Force, where he served honorably during the Korean War. He dropped out of Medford High School to fulfill this calling but later earned his high school diploma, thanks to the recognition of his principal upon his return. His service to his country instilled in him a sense of duty and discipline that he carried throughout his life.
John married the love of his life, Gwendoline Breckspier in Newbury, Berkshire, England. Their 43-year marriage was marked by deep commitment and love, particularly highlighted during Gwendoline’s illness, when John devoted himself to her with unwavering love until her passing in 1995. John often reflected on the joy of their life together and cherished the memories they created as a family.
John was an active member of his community and a devoted Mason for over 50 years, building friendships and bonds that enriched his life and the lives of others. He was known for his warm demeanor and his ability to bring happiness to those around him.
In his final days, John received exceptional care from Suzanne and Pastor Matt of Assured Hospice, and the staff and caregivers at Sharon Care, to whom his family express their heartfelt gratitude. Their compassion and dedication brought him comfort and peace, and he left this world knowing he was surrounded by love.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gwendoline; his daughter, Sharon Anderson; his granddaughter, Gwendoline Yarbrough; and his parents Luther and Edith. John’s legacy of love continues through his surviving family: his daughter Michelle Moreno and her husband Mark; his brother George Hunt and his wife Diane; his son-in-law Jim; grandchildren, Ashley Anderson, Courtney Moore, John Anderson, John England Ross Deuel, Jessica Yarbrough, William Yarbrough, and Gabriel Yarbrough; and 14 great-grandchildren.
John William Deuel's life was a beautiful journey filled with laughter, kindness, and an unyielding love for his family and friends. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
