Lawrence A. Seroshek peacefully passed away Saturday, Oct. 8, surrounded by his family. He was in his usual good health when an aneurysm took him from us. He will now be with his wife of 59 years, Kay, who preceded him in death.
Larry was born in 1920 in Napavine, WA to parents who immigrated here from Poland, Anne and Tony Seroshek. Larry was the oldest of three boys; Harry and Roy predeceased him.
Larry attended school at Evaline for grades 1-8 and graduated from Napavine High School in 1938. After high school he attended NYA training in Port Townsend, drove for Baker’s Dairy at Fort Warden. He drove an ice cream truck for American Lake in and around the Fort Lewis area. He was caught in a lockdown at Fort Lewis when Pearl Harbor was attacked. It was seeing the soldiers dealing with bad weather in their tents that made him join the Navy – he wanted to have a dry bed. As his ship left San Francisco Bay, FDR’s death was announced.
After the war, Larry drove for Tacoma Grocery and then Albers Milling. He worked at McArthur’s grocery in Tenino for many years. He then worked at the plywood plant. His last job was at Kinnear Door Co.; he retired from there in 1986. Retirement brought some travel but mostly enjoyment working at home as well as watching Mariners baseball and UW Husky football.
Larry is survived by his children, Joanne Martin of Olympia, Kelly and Judy Seroshek of Centralia, Toni Seroshek and Gail Anderson of Minnesota, Patricia Seroshek of Centralia; his aunt Helen Holt in Raymond, WA; his grandchildren Jolee and Russell Ray of Arizona, Katie Taylor and Rich of Olympia, Gay and Bob Duke of Spokane, Steve and Karolyn Seroshek of Tacoma; great-grandchildren Lindsay and Jerrod Taylor, Daniel, Timothy and Peter Duke, Kennedy and Jackson Seroshek; great-great-grandchild Londyn Taylor .
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, October 13th at 11am at Greenwood Memorial Cemetery. Family and friends will meet at the Ford’s Prairie grange afterwards for sharing remembrances and food.
We will miss Dad’s sense of humor, his charm, his caring.
.Arrangements under the direction of Sticklin Funeral Chapel, Centralia, WA.
