Growing up at Mary's corner, Marlow attended Jackson Prairie Grade School, W.F. West High School, and Napavine High School, graduating in 1965. After high school he worked for Taylor Drilling Company, drilling gas storage wells on Jackson Prairie, until he enlisted in the US Air Force in June 1966. His career field was missile fuel maintenance. He was stationed at Vandenberg Air Force Base, Lompoc, California until April 1970.
When Marlow's active duty was over, he returned to the Chehalis-Centralia area and went to work for Washington Water Power at the Jackson Prairie Gas Storage in June of 1970. Washington Water Power transferred him to the Washington Irrigation and Development Company (WIDCO) at the Centralia Coal Mine, which later became TransAlta. He retired in 2010 after 40 years of working at the mine.
On April 6, 1968, Marlow married Carol Aust in Centralia, Washington. In 1970 his daughter, Catherine (Cathy) was born. His son Mark was born in 1973. He coached T-Ball, minors, majors, and softball. In the 90’s, he enjoyed being a member of the “Chain-Gang” for the Napavine High School Tigers football team marking yard to gain at the football games and was also a member of the Napavine Lions Club. He has been a member of the Napavine Booster Club for many years. He was an avid supporter of Napavine’s sport programs, attending as many games as he could, even after his own children and grandchildren had moved on from high school.
Marlow had a passion for fishing, hunting, traveling, and camping. He waited with anticipation of fall every year, so he could attend elk camp with family, and friends who became family. He enjoyed spending his time playing cards, tinkering on various projects, and going out to dinner.
Marlow played city league basketball for the Smoke Shop, John's Tavern, and North Fork Timber to the age of 46. He played slow-pitch baseball for Independent Machine and MFG, and many years on the Ol'Cats, which only ended when he turned 52. Between basketball and baseball, several trips were made to the ER. He played both sports with lifelong friends, some of whom he met playing Little League in grade school.
Marlow is survived by Carol, his wife of 57 years, brother Rodney R. (Janice) Stewart, brother-in-law's Don Steele, Fred (Nancy) Aust, Jim (Debby) Aust, sister-in-law Patricia (Jim) Stenhouse, daughter Catherine (Jesse) Moore, and son Mark Stewart.
