

Mary Lorraine Hite, 93, was born on the Skookumchuck River Valley, Bucoda, WA at her grandparent’s Davies’ homestead to Albert D. Compton and Gladys A. (Davies) Compton on February 23, 1932. Her sisters, Eunice Juanita and Bertha Elizabeth both perished at a young age prior to her birth. She was named after her aunt’s, Mary (Davies) Swanson and Mary (Compton) Prince, went by Lorraine and was nicknamed Rae. Mary Lorraine was a descendant of the Ritter’s, Davies’, Compton’s and Hostettler’s of the region who settled in this area in the 1800’s.
Mary Lorraine graduated from Centralia High School in 1951. She married and raised her family in Olympia, WA then moved to Chehalis in her later years. She was an Environmental Technician at Providence, St. Peter Hospital in Lacey, WA where she retired in 1994. She was a hard worker, detail oriented and a problem solver.
Mary Lorraine loved God and was a dedicated, faithful Christian. She enjoyed the Arts, Dancing, and Sports. She collected all things Elephants. She donated to and supported many charities. She enjoyed family time, camping, garage sales and picnics. Her favorite thing was being at home and taking care of others. She never met a person that wasn’t her friend and had a smile for everyone she met. She loved her dogs, Mindy, Mandy and Bitzy. What brought her the most joy, were her grandchildren.
Mary Lorraine passed away from complications from recent medical conditions on September 17, 2025. She was preceded in death by many cousins that were like cherished sisters, most of her friends and schoolmates and love interests. She is survived by her children, Larry (Pam) Heck, Deborah (Bill) Delvo, David Heck, Teran Heck and Lilia Cooper. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild. She has also left behind her stepchildren, cousins and family friends that called her “MOM”. She will be missed and will live on in all of our hearts.
