Born and raised in Doty, Mickey graduated from Pe Ell High School, where he proudly served as Senior Class President. Shortly after graduation, he was drafted into the United States Army in 1964. He served two years, deploying to Germany before returning to Pe Ell to marry his high school sweetheart, Patricia Hensley, then finishing his service in Clarksville, Tennessee; beginning a lifelong partnership built on love and devotion.
Upon returning home, Mickey also began a long career with Weyerhaeuser, where he ran the forestry department as Fire Warden.
In his late twenties, Mickey was elected Mayor of Pe Ell, becoming the youngest mayor in Washington State history. Although people teased him about getting rich in politics, his $18-a-month salary didn’t even cover his water bill. During his tenure, he led efforts to remove unsafe, deteriorating buildings, revitalized the police department, and worked tirelessly to bring the community together. After serving eight years, he chose not to run again—yet the town wrote him in, electing him once more and bringing his total service as Mayor to 12 years.
Beyond his public service, Mickey was happiest outdoors. He loved hunting and fishing with his children, and he devoted countless hours to supporting youth in the community. He coached little league, served as a scout troop leader, formed and coached the Pe Ell Boxing Club, and rarely missed a single sporting event involving his kids or grandkids.
Mickey was preceded in death by his parents, Aaron and Rose Taylor; his brothers Carl, Duane, and Darry; and his beloved daughter, Missy.
He is survived by his sister, Marsha (Billy) Alden; his wife, Patricia; his children: Mike (Nicole) Taylor, Brady (Amy) Taylor, and Tonya (Ace) Bateman; grandchildren: Vandi, Kaytie, Audra, Karly, Bubba(Michael Aaron II), Samantha, Kylie, Andy, Dallas, William, Colin, Bruz, and Brixon; and great-grandchildren: James Jr, Ella, Tate, Grady, Brynn, Brody, Rowdy, Waylon, Kaylee, Rylan, Cadence, Rose, Mikey, Tucker, Levi, Marlee, Callie, and Melika.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Centralia Pointe Assisted living and Memory Care Facility—especially John Howard, Bonnie, Wanda, and Faye—for their compassionate, above-and-beyond support throughout Mickey’s journey with dementia.
All are welcome to help us celebrate the life of Mickey Taylor on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at 2 p.m. at the Pe Ell Methodist Church. There will be a brief chapel service followed by a potluck celebration where friends and family can visit and reminisce.
Mickey will be forever remembered for his dedication to his family, his community, and the outdoors he loved so deeply.
