Roberta was born July 9th, 1948, in Sisseton South Dakota to Robert Jesse Wilson & Yvonne Virginia (Spider) Wilson. Roberta grew up for a season with her Grandparents Titus & Eunice Wilson and her siblings Elena, Carole, and David in South Dakota. She was a member of the Sisseton Wahpeton Dakota Sioux Oyate. Her tribal nick name was “Boots” due to her always wearing large boots as a child.
In 1964, she met & married George J. Brandt in Spring Lake Park Mn. and together they had Sunday Ann, Paul Michael, and Shelley Renee’. After the marriage dissolved a few years later, in 1975 she met and married the love of her life; Dennis Richard Spalding. They moved to the Pacific Northwest in Hansville Washington and together they raised their daughter Brenda Lynnae’.
They lived a life they loved and enjoyed working in the mountains, to running & operating cedar shingle/shake mills from Port Ludlow, to Winlock, Adna, and Chehalis & Oregon. She was incredibly involved with nature such as floral and greenery. Her talent was a natural at creating beautiful Christmas wreaths, floral arrangements, flower towers and at one point she had a private competition with her neighbor on growing her cherry tomatoes the highest. Mother won. She chuckled while watching him scratch his head wondering how? At night she was burying fish end-trails under her tomato beds. Her cherry tomatoes grew roof top high. Bravo Mom!
Roberta loved traveling to San Francisco California & the flower market.
There she loved visiting China town and she made the BEST tempura batter dipped sturgeon. Summers and time spent with her daughters and their families’ digging clams, agate hunting, fishing, cooking, barbequing on the beach.
Roberta was always that funny, hip, sassy mom and grandma who loved sparkles, jewelry, and could create, paint, draw, build, design, and fix anything she chose to do. If one tried to pen & share the heart and soul of her, it would take pages upon pages, and days and years.
Roberta was a mother, grandma, and close friend to many people throughout the years. We were so honored and thankful that God placed her in our lives, and we will cherish the fact that each one of us had gifting's and traits she deposited within us. The love, memories, hugs, wiped-mouth kisses and endless “ok I love you’s” we will carry with us from now until forever.
