Russell Eugene Spencer

Russell Spencer 1929 - 2020 Russell Eugene Spencer, passed away peacefully on, June 24, 2020 in Longview, Wash. He was born January 26, 1929 in Ajlune, Wash. to Edward Spencer and Myrtle (Blakely) Spencer. He was the youngest of four children and spent his childhood in Ajlune, Wash. attending Mossyrock schools. Russell turned 18 and enlisted the army air-core stationed at Lewis-Mccord Air Force Base January 30, 1947. He toured to Okinawa as a radar repair technician and turret/gun mechanic at a sergeant level was honorable discharged in October 1949. Russell married Helen T. Swartz, February 5, 1952 in Humbolt, California where Helen was raised. Russell and Helen lived there for a short period then moving to Winston Creek, Wash. to start a family. In 1979, they moved to Centralia to live closer to his mother and grandchildren they were married for 62 years. Russell moved to Mossyrock in 2015 and attended the senior center in Lewis County where he fell in love with Doris Keeps in 2016 and married her May 26, 2017. Doris’s daughter Catherine Sigler (Ron) and son Joseph Bryant (Korda) grandchildren, nieces and nephews all added to the family. Russell was a very loving father, husband and uncle always giving help and there if you needed it, taking care of family. He loved hunting deer, elk, and fishing, traveling to Alaska with family and friends and Riffe Lake he continued fishing until 2017. He loved his dachshunds: Jake, hot dog, ben, also liked woodcrafts making lighthouses and waterwheels. Russell worked in the timber industry; construction; the steam plant; Duhlin const. and sound marine on boat motors in retirement. Russell was member of the Centralia Eagles and Centralia-Chehalis Elks and operating engineers. Three generations of Spencer family history can be visited at the Veteran’s Memorial Museum Chehalis, Wash. Preceding him in death: Myrtle M. Spencer (mother), Edward B. Spencer (father), Helen T. Spencer (Swartz)(wife), brothers: Arnold and Elgar Spencer, sister: Alice Many; Jim Spencer (nephew)and Baby Spencer. He is survived by: (wife)-Doris spencer, son- Rick Spencer (Roberta) Rochester, Wash., (niece)- Francis Patsy (Dwight) Tacoma, Wash. 3-grandchildren: Jeremiah Spencer (Tammy) Tacoma, Wash.; Shane Spencer-Morris (Sean) Olympia, Wash.; brain Spencer (Caitlyn) Seattle, Wash. 2- Great grandchildren: Saybrah Morris, Olympia, Wash., Sage Spencer, Tacoma, Wash. 9-nieces and nephews: Francis, James, Lynn, Steve, Rolland, Brenda, Debbie, Lynda, Sandy and numerous great nieces and nephews.
