Born March 12, 1925, in Mint Hill, NC, Mr. Ferguson was the fourth of seven children born to the late Ira Vance Ferguson and Esther Eugenia Flowe, and was the last surviving child of all seven, living to be the oldest. He was a graduate of Bain High School, where he was voted Best Dressed by his graduating class.
Mr. Ferguson enjoyed a long career in the consumer finance industry from 1959 to 2007. He owned four different finance companies during the period 1972 to 2007, including Union Credit Company of Monroe and Concord, NC, Stanly Financial Services and Local Finance of Albemarle, NC.
Mr. Ferguson also enjoyed a long career in the furniture and appliance business in Monroe, NC, starting in 1967 with A.F. Ferguson Co., and later A.F. Ferguson Furniture Company, ending in 1998. He was a member of Philadelphia Presbyterian Church of Mint Hill, NC and Monroe Rotary Club.
In addition to his parents, four brothers and two sisters, Mr. Ferguson was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Valla Chaney Ferguson, daughter, Kay Ferguson Overturf, and grandson, Matthew Kight.
Surviving are his son, Robert (Bob) Ferguson and wife, Alanza, of Mint Hill, NC; daughter, Ann Ferguson Funderburk and husband, Marlon, of Indian Trail, NC; grandchildren, Charles Overturf and wife, Tessa, John Ferguson, Amy Ferguson, Amanda Ferguson, Christopher Wilson, and Ashley Wilson; and two great-granddaughters, Harper Overturf and Stella Overturf.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, at McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road in Mint Hill. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 21, at Philadelphia Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Rusty Benton and the Rev. Katie Sloan officiating. Interment will follow in Ira V. Ferguson Memorial Cemetery, 9121 Ferguson Road, Mint Hill, NC.
