Andrew W. Denton Jr.

Andy was born on July 3, 1947, in Cedartown, Georgia, to the late Andrew W. Denton Sr. and Evelyn Kines Denton. Andy received his Bachelor’s degree from Auburn University in 1969. After college he joined the United States Army and served in Vietnam from 1970 to 1971. His time courageously serving our country deepened his love for America and his patriotism only strengthened throughout his life.

Andy married the love of his life, Naomi, and together they shared two children, Brandi and Tre. Andy loved his family and was overjoyed when he became Paw Paw to his four grandchildren. He loved to create games for his family to play during the holidays, like "guess the beans", "tennis ball golf" and "count the candy", and winners of these games received cash prizes. His fun spirit created countless memories that will last his family a lifetime.

Andy always had a cheerful disposition and never met a stranger. He showed kindness to all he met. In his spare time, he enjoyed Auburn football and singing gospel music. Andy spent countless years as a member of the church choir and a gospel quartet. He spent the last several years singing with JAMin Ministries, a division of Jeff Andler Ministries whose mission is to glorify Christ in this world by going to the lost, lonely, and hurting and giving their time, talents and resources to bring them the gospel message.

In addition to his parents, Andy was predeceased by his sister, Vicki Denton Burmeister. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Naomi Minish-Denton; his children, Brandi Denton Nerud and Andrew W. Denton III “Tre”; his grandchildren, Jamie, Jacob, Grace and Drew; son-in-law, Jan Nerud; and daughter-in-law, Robin Denton.

A visitation for Andy will be held Sunday, December 15, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Mint Hill, NC 28227, followed by a celebration of life at 3:00 PM.
