She was born on August 6, 1924 in Charlotte, NC to the late A.E. Williams and Nell Williams Mills.
Mrs. Austin is survived by her daughter, Sherian Austin; two sons, Jimmy Austin (Karen) and David Austin (Kim); four granddaughters, Kim Stephens (David), Allison Pinnix (Randy), Kati Austin and Brooke Austin; and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Melvyn James Austin, Sr.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, the 29th of December, 2016 at Matthews United Methodist Church, 801 S. Trade St., Matthews, NC 28105, with the funeral service starting at 11:00 a.m.
Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens.
