Beverly Stockard Miles

Beverly was born on February 14, 1937, in Burlington NC to the late Charlie and Grace Horner Stockard. She graduated from Walter Williams High School, class of 1955 and attended Elon College. She started her career as an executive secretary at P. Lorilliard Tobacco and Burlington Industries. In 1979, she and husband W.C. founded WCM Sales, in Charlotte, NC, where she served as President for many years.

Beverly is survived by her loving children, Walter (Wally) C. Miles, III (Susan), Janet Miles Shelley (Kirk); grandchildren, Dr. Christina Shelley Gutta (Michael), Kirk Shelley, Jr (Hannah), Walter C. Miles, IV, Natalie Miles Jarrett (Colin); and great-grands, Susanna Jarrett, Ryan Gutta, and Scout Shelley.

Beverly was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 42 years, Walter C. Miles, Jr. (W.C); and sister, Barbara Stockard Isley.

Beverly is best known for her love of family. She was a giving and fantastic mother, loving grandma, and doting great-grandma to all in her family. She was the best cheerleader, supporter, advocate that any family could have. She and husband, W.C. were members of the Charlotte Rose Society for many years, sharing the beauty and comfort from their roses with others.

Beverly also loved her church, Hickory Grove UMC, where she and W.C. helped start the recreation program that many enjoyed. She was an active member of the Cokesbury class and co-chair of the Sunshine committee of Group Lydia and loved sending greeting cards to family and friends.

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service to celebrate Beverly’s life at 1:00 pm on Sunday, October 10, 2021, at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Mint Hill, NC 28227, with the Rev. Sarah Kalish and Rev. Phyllis Coates officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following. There will be a family burial in Greenville, SC.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Hickory Grove United Methodist Church, 6401 Hickory Grove Road, Charlotte, NC 28215.
