Chris, age 68, of Mint Hill, NC, passed away peacefully in her residence, on February 25, 2013, after an extended illness of lung cancer and Alzheimer’s disease.
Born May 25, 1944 in Cincinnati, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late William Emery Worth, Sr. and Winifred Evans Worth. Survived by husband, John Payton Skeen, 68 of Cincinnati, Ohio. Mr. and Mrs. Skeen just celebrated their forty-eighth wedding anniversary. They were married February 20, 1965. Mrs. Skeen graduated from Anderson High School, in Cincinnati, Ohio and attended the University of Cincinnati and The Ohio State University where she studied Business. She was a member of Alpha Xi Delta Sorority. Mrs. Skeen taught sixth grade for several years at Georgetown Elementary School. She then stayed at home to raise her children, occasionally working in the church office. Chris and John moved to Mint Hill, NC in 1979 where Chris worked as a substitute teacher at Independence High School, in Mint Hill, NC. She attended Blair Road Methodist Church for 23 years where she was on the Finance Committee, Pastor Parish Relations Committee, Mary Helen Wilson Circle, taught Sunday School and sang in the Choir. Mrs. Skeen worked at Dover Mortgage for fourteen years when she retired in 2006. She then moved to The Villages, Florida for five years where she was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing bridge, before returning to Mint Hill in 2012.
Mrs. Skeen and family traveled to the Outer Banks every year from July 1973 to the present for a vacation with long time friends Jim and Mary Hamilton, of Murrysville, PA. She was a die-hard fan of The Ohio State University football team, going to watch the games at the OSU alumni headquarters in Charlotte. Mrs. Skeen was survived by one daughter, Kelly Skeen Eudy, (Mark) and one son John McGuire Skeen, (Heather). She was the proud grandmother of seven grandchildren: Wesley Dalton Stamey, Taylor Davis Eudy, Jordan Ayers Eudy, Madeline Rayne Badgett, Alexandra McGuire Skeen, Delaney Buchanan Skeen and Morgan Payton Skeen. She is also survived by her siblings William Emery Worth Jr. (Nancy), Marsha Murphy (Rick), Susan Kroviak (James), Peter Thomas Worth (Mary), and Andrew Anson Worth (Molly). She was a beloved niece to Marjorie Evans Merten, Thomas Lang Evans, and the late Jeanette Evans Jones, Ruth Worth Bush, and Robert Worth. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. A celebration of her life will be held at Blair Road United Methodist Church, 9135 Blair Rd Mint Hill NC 28227, on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at 12:00 p.m. Funeral arrangements provided by McEwen Funeral Home – Mint Hill.
