

Connie Cowan, age 83, formerly of Gwinnett County, Georgia, and a beloved resident of Matthews, North Carolina, lived a life defined by intelligence, steadfast dedication, and a profound love for family.
A proud graduate of Jonesboro High School in Georgia, Connie pursued higher education at Georgia Tech, where he cultivated his passion for engineering. His career spanned more than 35 years as a fire protection design engineer, a field where his expertise and precision ensured the safety and well-being of countless individuals.
Connie was a man of patience, care, and wisdom, always ready to share his knowledge and lend his support. His greatest joy came from spending time with family, caring for his beloved wife, reading books, watching movies, and passing on the lessons he had learned throughout his life. His kindness, steady presence, and unwavering devotion will forever be treasured by those who knew him.
He will be remembered most for his patience and deep love for his family, qualities that shaped the meaningful relationships he built. His legacy will live on in the many lives he touched, and the warmth of his presence will never be forgotten.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Hall Cowan; children, Courtney Ellis and Christopher Cowan; and grandchildren Kendall, Mason, and Cole. He was predeceased by his parents, Orris W. Cowan and Frances Cowan.
A memorial service for Connie will be held Wednesday, June 11, 2025 from 1:00 PM at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Mint Hill, NC 28227. The family will receive friends following the service.
In honor of Connie’s compassionate spirit, donations can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, an organization close to his heart.
