Craig Rollins Herlong, 39, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on December 16, 2020. He was born in Columbia, SC on September 10, 1981. Craig graduated from West Forsyth High School and received his Bachelor of Science degree from Appalachian State University.
Craig had a career in the food and beverage industry and worked for Fine Wine Trading Co., Vintners Select, Fiddletown Cellars, Dressler’s Restaurant and Black Chicken Wine Cellar. From an early age, Craig had a passion for good food, high end dining and the perfect wine to accompany a meal. Often his tastes and his budget were at odds, but his tastes always won out. He was a master of the grill and enjoyed leaving amateurs in his wake. He was kind and generous, with a dry wit that only equaled that of his grandfather. He was quirky and stubborn, an intense thinker and quite the philosopher. He loved his family and his friends and was fiercely loyal to both. He enjoyed lengthy conversations with others about wine and most any other topic, and yet, he was most often a man of few words. He was an “accept me as I am” kind of guy, smart and well spoken. He saw little reason to hold a grudge and could analyze most situations calmly and logically. He will remain forever in the hearts of those who love him.
He is survived by his parents Deanna and Vaughn Herlong of Waxhaw, NC, his brother, Nathan Herlong (Nikki) and nieces, Bayden and Campbell Herlong of Matthews along with numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel in Mint Hill, NC.
Memorials may be made to Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina.
