Curtis was born on March 8, 1956 to Ted and Louise Speas in Winston Salem, North Carolina. He graduated from North Surry High School in Mount Airy, North Carolina in 1974. He received his associates degree from Valencia Community College in 1979, then went on to receive his bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 1998. He retired from Central Piedmont Community College as the testing center coordinator.
He loved traveling, especially to the beach. He loved the sand and the waves. Curtis enjoyed cooking and loved his regular lunch dates with his daughter and granddaughter. The March of Dimes held a special place in his heart.
Curtis was a loving and caring person. He will be remembered most for the love he had for his family and his witty sense of humor. He was a devoted grandfather to his granddaughter, Haylee, she was his world.
He is survived by his daughter, Jessica Barefoot; granddaughter, Haylee Griffin; and siblings, Laura Davis, Jody Speas, and Bob Speas.
A memorial service for Curtis will be held Sunday, March 16, 2025 at 2:00 PM at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Mint Hill, NC 28227.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Curtis' memory may be made to March of Dimes, and American Cancer Society.
