Born in Westchester County, NY on November 21st, 1936 to Andrew Forman Weyant & Marie Kunath Weyant. The family moved several times before making their home in Charlotte, NC. There Cynthia graduated from Central High School, and attended Mercy Hospital where she earned her degree as an x-ray technician. While working at Mercy Hospital she met her 1st husband, Thomas O’Donoghue. During their marriage, she and Tom created four daughters together (two of which passed at birth) and enjoyed owning Carolina Arts & Crafts together. After the store closed, Tom became a toy sales representative and they began a successful manufacturers representative business. Cynthia worked in the business but raising their two daughters was what she loved. The family enjoyed camping, raising & showing miniature Schnauzers and starting another crafts business during that time.
Tom & Cynthia divorced in 1982 and in December of that year, Cynthia decided to set out on a new life of independence & adventure. She sold her house and purchased a one way ticket to the Cayman Islands where she lived a life that few could only imagine. (Details redacted by Scotland Yard). She started a ceramic shop and began teaching pottery & ceramics to the locals and the disabled before dipping her feet into the waters of real estate. Grand Cayman was her home for a few years before moving to St. Thomas, USVI for a short period of time and briefly back to Charlotte, before embarking on her biggest adventure.
In 1993 Cynthia got into her old Chevy van and began her journey across the United States and through Canada to her ultimate dream destination of living in Alaska. She was joined during her journey, by J.C. Britt of Charlotte, who would become her 2nd husband. Cynthia & J.C. continued the crafts business in Wasilla until his death in 1998. Afterwards she moved to the beautiful town of Talkeetna where her heart truly belonged. Cynthia loved her community, her friends and her continued business of making and selling her crafts. She loved working with her closest friends, Carol Ryan and Suzy Kellard to help people in need. In 2022, Cynthia relocated back to NC to spend her final years with her two daughters (Teresa & Dawn), and while she lived here, her heart & home would forever be in Alaska.
Cynthia had a passion for animals, nature and all of God’s creations. She loved travel, swimming, helping others and above all, her relationship with God. She instilled kindness, compassion, stubbornness and an inquisitive and adventurous spirit into her daughters.
Cynthia is survived by her daughters Teresa Sessoms (and boyfriend, Danny) of Charlotte, Dawn O’Donoghue Yates (and husband, Patrick) of Midland, her beloved kitty, Snuggles and grandchild, Kevin Sessoms.
