She was born on September 25, 1946, and raised in Charlotte, NC by her loving parents, Hayden and Helen Roberts. She grew up surrounded by siblings, cousins and friends galore in the Newell and Hickory Grove communities. She attended Newell School, East Mecklenburg High School and graduated from Garinger High School.
DeAnne is survived by the love of her life and wonderful husband, Don McCorkle. They were married on October 16, 1965, just three months prior to Don being drafted by the U.S. Marines and called to duty in the Vietnam War. The Lord returned him safely to her 13 months later and graciously provided these two sweethearts with 59 years together.
She is also survived by her daughter, Stefani DeAnne McCorkle Greene and son-in-law (who she loved as her own), Bryan T. Greene along with her grandchildren (two of her greatest joys), Colten Ellis Greene and Brylie DeAnne Greene; son, Weston McCorkle; siblings, Hayden Roberts, Jr. (Jeanette), Bart Roberts (Kathy), Adele Hawks (Max), Mimi Reynolds (Frank); along with many nieces and nephews.
DeAnne is preceded in death by her parents Hayden P. Roberts, Sr. and Helen Sample Roberts, and her nephews Paul Roberts and Jason Roberts.
The Lord blessed DeAnne with the gift of music which she used to glorify Him through her career as a Director of Music at Newell Presbyterian Church and Hickory Grove Presbyterian Church. She was an extremely talented pianist, organist and singer yet humble to the core. She selflessly reached the hearts of all ages through her music ministry while humbly shining the light of Christ. She became an icon at the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s office for many years through her work as a legal assistant. Following retirement, she continued using her musical gift through joyfully singing with the Albemarle Road Presbyterian Church choir where she is a member.
DeAnne was absolutely one of a kind with her sweet and overabundantly giving spirit. Precious is the word most frequently used by those who had the honor of being known and loved by her. A precious servant of the Lord who always placed everyone else above her own needs with an endless smile and a sweet giggle on top. She never ceased to share her unwavering love and devotion as a wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend. We will miss her every single day on this earth but truly believe we will see our Mom-Mom again in Heaven or when Jesus returns. Our hope lies in Him “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.” (Revelation 1:8)
