Dorothea Ann Mumm

Dorothea A. Mumm, 84, of Charlotte, passed away Thursday, April 1, 2010 at Mercy Hospital. For the past two years, she lived at Brighton Gardens with her beloved husband of 62 years, John F. Mumm.

Dorothea was born on February 8, 1926 in Chicago to the late Margaret Noonan Fairfield and Leonard Francis Fairfield. She was the fourth of ten children. She attended nurse’s training at Little Company of Mary Hospital, where she earned her RN. Dorothea and John were married on February 7, 1948.

She was a wonderful wife and mother. Her kindness and generosity touched many lives. Her brothers, E. William Fairfield, Fr. Jeffry Fairfield and Joseph Fairfield; and sisters, Mary F. Bilder and Therese Fairfield Akins preceded her in death

She is survived by her husband and their five children, daughters, Dorothea Mumm Irwin and husband, Steve, of Noblesville, IN and Anita Mumm Wheeless and husband, Randy, of Charlotte, and sons, Jonathan J. Mumm and wife, Roberta, of Roseville, CA, Frederick F. Mumm and wife, Teresa, of Calabasas, CA and Christopher G. Mumm of Jacksonville, FL. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Jennifer M. Formwalt of Athens, GA, Zachary A. Formwalt and wife, Stine, of Amsterdam, Holland, Meghan Formwalt of New York City, Catalina Mumm of New York City, Andrew Mumm of Calabasas, CA, John T. Mumm of New York City, Daniel J. Mumm of Roseville, CA, Jeffrey D. Mumm of Roseville, CA, Nestor Mumm of Jacksonville, FL, Colette M. Wheeless, Amelia A. Wheeless and Kent A. Wheeless, all of Charlotte. Ttwo sisters, Ann Kinney of Claremont, CA and Margaret Koepp of Egan, MN; and two brothers, Gerard Fairfield of Joliet, IL and Eugene Fairfield of Fairfield, CN, also survive her.

A Rosary Service and visitation will be Monday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. at McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel. Fr. Mark Lawlor at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Charlotte will celebrate the Funeral Mass on Tuesday, April 6 at 10:30 A.M. Interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens in Mint Hill.
