

She was born Dorothy Lou Moss on July 23, 1922 in Richmond County, NC, a daughter of Joseph Lee and Lula Jane Moss. Dorothy was an excellent student and graduated from Hoffman H.S. in 1939. After graduating from high school, she moved to Charlotte where she attended the Carolina Business College and worked for Hudson Hosiery Co. and Chadwick-Hoskins Co. During the World War II years, she worked for U.S. Rubber Co. at the “Shell Plant” as a payroll Clerk. It was at U.S. Rubber Co. where she met her husband of 65 years. Mrs. Ross retired from Charlotte Aircraft Corporation where she worked as an accountant and benefits coordinator for many years. Mrs. Ross was an active member of Eastern Hills Baptist Church for 50 years where she served in many roles. She was also a member and former officer of the Queen City Republican Women’s Club. In addition to her professional, spiritual and civic life, Dorothy was foremost an excellent homemaker, mother and grandmother.
Mrs. Ross is survived by her husband, Baxter Davis Ross of the home; son, Joseph Baxter Ross and his wife, Carol Cox Ross, of Grand Harbor Plantation, Ninety Six, SC; daughter, Jennifer Mary Ross Waldrop and her husband, Terry Waldrop, of McCalla, AL; and grandchildren, Joseph Trevor Ross of Atlanta, GA, Welthan Ross Harhai (Brian) of Atlanta, GA, and Charlotte Waldrop Reach (Robby) of Birmingham, AL. Also surviving are sisters, Sue Moss Gamble of Charlotte, Jane Moss Boyd of Huntsville, AL, Josephine Moss Jones of Charlotte, and Alice Moss Foreman of Chester, VA. Mrs. Ross is also survived by many nieces and nephews who fondly identified her as “Aunt Dot.”
Mrs. Ross’ family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 PM Sunday at McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel. A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Monday, February 21, at Eastern Hills Baptist Church with the Rev. Albert Leath officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, 6000 Fairview Road, Suite 200, Charlotte, NC 28210 , or Hospice and Palliative Care, Charlotte Region, 1420 East 7th Street, Charlotte, NC 28204.
