83, of Matthews, passed away on July 12, 2013.
He was born on December 26, 1929 in La Crosse, VA, to the late Emma Burton and Dwight L. Moody Sr. Dwight served in the US Army 5th Regimental Combat Team during the Korean War 1951-1953. He became a Methodist minister in the early 60’s, pastored several churches throughout NC and then in 1966, began chapel services at Hickory Grove United Methodist Church for 21 years.
Dwight was a pioneer in the Charlotte music industry. He and his wife Cathy founded the 51 year old Indie label Lamon Records in 1962, and soon after Lamon Studio of Music; offering music instruction to thousands of future musicians. A long standing member of the WBT Briarhoppers, he also played fiddle with his sons, The Moody Brothers, on their two Grammy Award nominated recordings.
He was the founder of the Mint Hill-Matthews Rotary Club and in 2012 received the “Order of the Long Leaf Pine”.
Dwight was predeceased by his wife, Katherine Lucille Moody. He is survived by his three sons; Carlton (Margie) Moody, David (Susan) Moody and Trent (Beth) Moody, his grandchildren; Jackson, Tess, Joshua, Rebecca, Maxwell, Harrison and Gabrielle, and siblings; Essie Bryce Moody and Kenneth Moody of La Crosse, VA.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at Hickory Grove United Methodist Church 6401 Hickory Grove Rd, Charlotte, NC 28215.
