Mr. Ed was born May 1, 1935 in Garden City, Alabama, and was the son of the late Richard and Minnie Thomas. He served for five years in the U.S. Army at Fort Jackson, SC and also in the Army Reserve. He met and married the love of his life, Edith, and resided in Alabama, where they raised their three children. They were married for 59 years.
After moving to Charlotte in 1977, Mr. Ed became the owner of an independent insurance agency. After retirement, he and his wife enjoyed camping and flea marketing. He had a passion for life and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He was an active member of Morning Star Lutheran Church for over 30 years.
Mr. Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Thomas.
Survivors include daughter, Susan Thomas and husband, Carmen DeAndrea, Jr., of Mooresville; son, Tim Thomas and wife, Danielle, of Waxhaw; and son, Terry Thomas and wife, Shelley, of Gilbert, SC. Others that will cherish his memory are nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, five sisters and one brother.
The family will receive friends at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel on June 21, from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on June 22, at 11:00 AM, at Morning Star Lutheran Church.
