Mr. Gary Brooks Godwin

Born July 27, 1959 in Ramseur, NC, Brooks was the son of Bobby E. Godwin and the late Doris Griffin Godwin.

He received his Bachelor’s Degree from UNCC and worked in Commercial Appraising with Factory Mutual.

Brooks enjoyed his pet dachshunds, was an avid Carolina Tarheel fan and along with his grandson, Abel, was a passionate Carolina Panthers fan from the start.

In addition to his father, Bobby of Charlotte, Brooks is survived by his son, Mike Leport of Hamilton, OH; his spouse, Julie Jones Godwin; his grandson, Abel Sawyer Jackson of Monroe; his sisters, Kim Godwin Anderson, Melanie Godwin and Teresa Godwin Bailey (Skip), all of Charlotte; his adoptive brother, Jeff Ballard of Cincinnati, OH; and very close friends, David and Jennifer Barnes.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, at McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road in Mint Hill, with a memorial service to celebrate his life to immediately follow at 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
