Gerald was born October 11, 1942, in Charlotte, NC, at Presbyterian Hospital. His parents, Herman Allen Turner and Margie Strawn Turner, and brothers, Douglas Lynn Turner and Steven Earl Turner preceded him in death. He married Andrea Gail Elliott, his childhood sweetheart, on July 23, 1966. He graduated from West Mecklenburg High School in 1961, Central Piedmont Community College, and honorably served his country in the United States Air Force from 1964 until 1968. He was a longtime member of St. Luke United Methodist Church and later of The Vine United Methodist Church. Gerald worked at Tryon Repair Service for 20 years and later taught electronics at Central Piedmont Community College. He could fix anything, being an excellent problem solver.
Gerald was a kind, gentle, and caring person. He will be remembered most for his love of life, love of family, and love of His Lord. Gerald is survived by his loving wife, Andrea Turner; his admiring children, Jon Turner (Paige) and Julie Brown (Mark Sr.); and his supportive brother, David Turner. Also left behind to cherish his memory are his grandchildren, Abbie Simon (Andrew), Rebeka Cawley (Justin), Natalie Sailers (Adam), Mark Brown, Jr. (Brittany), and Zack Brown, and his great-grandchildren, Oliver Cawley, Jackson Simon, Wesley Elliott Simon, Taylor and Teagan Brown, and Dylan and Savannah Sailors.
The graveside service will be Saturday, February 1, 2025 at 2:00 pm for family at Sharon Memorial Cemetery on 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte, North Carolina, 28212. A reception for family and friends will be from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at Aldersgate Club Room located on 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, North Carolina, 28215.
