Born in Monroe, North Carolina, Gladys was a daughter of the late Emsley and Beulah Funderburk. She was a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church and former member of Plaza Baptist Church. Gladys loved gardening, sewing, quilting, and knitting. She had a strong Christian Faith that was present in her love for Jesus and her love for her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey C. Kerr; and ten siblings.
Surviving are her daughter, Lynn K. Waldrop and husband, Barry; son, Harvey C. “Chip” Kerr, Jr. and wife, Janet; son, Thomas H. Kerr, and daughter, Gwendolyn “Wendy” Byrne and husband, Kevin. She also leaves behind are her grandchildren, Amy Canupp and husband, Brian, Ashley Kerr, Craig Kerr and wife, Kate, Lauren Byrne, Cameron Byrne and wife, Mia, and Lindsay Byrne; and her great-grandchildren, Drew Canupp, Avery Canupp, Jane Kerr, and Cassidy Kerr. Also left to mourn her passing are her sister, Rebecca Smith and husband, Bill; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:30 pm Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road in Mint Hill, with a funeral service following at 1:30 pm in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Charlotte Memorial Gardens.
