Harold grew up in Granby, Connecticut and graduated from Granby High School. He then graduated from The University of Hartford in Hartford Connecticut. After college he became a devoted member of the United States Marine Corps. He served in Vietnam in the 6th Regiment.
His devotion to the Marines did not diminish after serving. He continued to stay active in as a member and Pay Master of the Marine Corp League of Charlotte Detachment # 750 and a member of the Indian Trail VFW.
Harold loved all sports. He loved to golf in his free time and was a lifelong Yankee fan. Harold enjoyed watching NASCAR and his favorite driver was the number 2 car, Rusty Wallace. Along with sports, He loved all dogs and dog training.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Matilda (Kamarauskas) Kramer; brother, Richard Powers; and daughter, Elizabeth Kay DesChamps.
Harold is survived by his loving wife of almost 58 years, Linda DesChamps; daughters, Michelle Gardner (Gary) of Nevada and Jennifer Sidenstricker (Ted) of Florida; brother, Robert Powers of New Hampshire; sister-in-laws, Kathleen Shearer of Georgia and Maria Powers of Florida; nieces, Mackenzie Williams-Klosterman (Luke) and Natalie Powers; and nephews, Dustin Williams, Alexander and David Powers.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt gratitude for the wonderful care provided by the Charlotte Hospice team, VA Home Health Care team, and Senior Helpers. A special thanks to Kimberly Profit and Oulimatou "Ouli" Cisse for going above and beyond their caregiver duties.
In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Harold's honor to the Marine Corp League or Hospice of Charlotte.
A celebration of life for Harold will be held Thursday, July 25, 2024 at 2:00 PM at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Mint Hill, NC 28227, followed by a reception.
