

He spent many happy years with his wife, Ruth Hatley McCoy, recently celebrating their 72nd wedding anniversary. Providing lifelong love and support for one another, you would rarely see one without the other. They set an example to their family and friends of how to love for a lifetime.
Born and raised in Charlotte, the youngest son of Joseph and Stella (Smith) McCoy, Jim was a lifelong resident of his hometown.
Jim leaves his Wife, Ruth; two sons; James L. McCoy, Jr. and wife Anne, Ronald W. McCoy and wife Sheila; two grandchildren; Martha Anne Krisko and husband Jon, James L. McCoy III and wife Katie; and three great-grandchildren; Jackson Krisko, Sawyer Krisko and Mira McCoy; and many close friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his Father, Joseph McCoy; Mother, Stella McCoy; Brother, Ralph McCoy; Sister, Pearl Bass; and Brother, William McCoy.
During World War II, Jim served three years for his country in the Pacific as a Staff Sgt. in the 259th Artillery. After the war, he traveled as an industrial salesman and served as president of the Charlotte Salesmen’s Club. He loved to travel and took Ruth and his young sons along on the road as often as possible. He passed his love of road trips along to Jim Jr. and Ron. When he finally left the road he became Assistant Manager at Dillon Supply Company until he retired.
Jim was a loving, thoughtful and unassuming husband, father and grandfather who loved his family and his church. He joined Hickory Grove Church in 1960 and was a faithful member having served in many capacities including as Chairman of the Deacons, Chairman of the Benevolence Committee, Sunday School teacher, Usher and on many other committees.
Jim was an avid sports fan rooting especially for the Panthers and Braves. He loved watching their games whenever he could.
His love of travel took him to almost every state in the Union and many countries in Europe. When not taking their own trips, Jim and Ruth traveled with many of their friends from Hickory Grove Baptist Church. Jim took his tape recorder with him on these trips and loved to capture the sounds of other places along with his pictures.
His family with receive friends from 10:00am until 11:00am on Monday November 16, 2015 at Hickory Grove Baptist Church with funeral service to follow at 11:00am in the church sanctuary. The Rev. John Harrill will officiate. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park.
