

Jim was born in Willard, Ohio on May 19, 1934. He was a navy veteran who served his country in the Korean conflict. He was a member of the American Legion. He married his beloved wife, Nancy Crouch McGuire, on May 25, 1957. They had eight children.
He worked in several areas at The Photo Journal Press where he became an award winning photographer. Some of his most memorable assignments were photographing Ohio State football coach Woody Hayes and Miss America, Jackie Mayer. In 1970 he moved his family to Graham, NC where he worked for Levin Brothers Trucking and then Moss McLeod Trucking and Rigging in Charlotte, NC.
In 1975 he realized a lifelong dream when he and Nancy bought the News Center Bookstore. The News Center was on the square and sold magazines and books from all over the world as well as paperback books of every genre.
Mr. McGuire was preceded in death by his parents, Harold Edward McGuire and Ida Miller McGuire, his daughter, Julie Anne McGuire, a sister, Dorothy McGuire Willson, a brother, Paul Thomas McGuire; and two sons-in-law, Kenneth Jeffory Swayney and Jeffrey David Motsinger.
Jim is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Nancy Crouch McGuire; seven children, Maureen McGuire Kendall (Danny) of Matthews, Theresa McGuire Swayney (Joseph Tucker) of Charlotte, Kevin James McGuire (Paula) of Matthews, Christina McGuire Motsinger of Indian Trail, Laurie McGuire Carr (Thomas) of Denver, Colorado, Valerie McGuire Summers (Mike) of Waxhaw and Mary Katherine McGuire Fario (Carl) of Monroe; 16 grandchildren; April Kendall, Nathaniel Kendall, Amanda Kendall, Brandon Kendall, Spencer Kendall, Alexander McGuire, Michael McGuire, Mitchell Motsinger, Jacob Motsinger, Lucas Motsinger, Andrew Carr, James Carr, Sean Summers, Halle Summers, Olivia Fario and Isabella Fario; one great-grandchild, Teagan Kendall as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
A visitation will be held from 6:00pm until 9:00pm on Friday, May 5, 2017 at McEwen at Sharon Memorial, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC 28212. A second visitation will be held from 10:00am until 10:30am on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 8451 Idlewild Road, Charlotte, NC 28227 with a funeral mass starting at 10:30am. Interment to follow at Evergreen City Cemetery in Charlotte, NC.
