

Jim was born on June 6, 1928, in Mecklenburg County, NC, to the late Reverend Charles H. Rowan and the late Annie Sue Walker Rowan.
He served his country in the U.S. Army for two years.
Jim was a member of the Matthews Presbyterian Church in Matthews.
He was employed with Coca Cola, Pepsi Cola and retired from Pelton and Crane in 1991.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-one years, Margaret Hooks Rowan, Matthews, NC; two sons, Jimmy (Kim) Rowan, Monroe, NC, and John (Betsy) Rowan, Charlotte, NC; his grandson, Christopher (Christiana) Rowan, Monroe, NC; his sister, Ann Huie, Greenville, SC; two sisters-in-law, Ernestine Rowan, Matthews, and Grace Rowan, Boston, MA; and a number of nieces and nephews.
His family will receive friends on Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2011, from 12:30 p.m.-2:00 p.m. at the McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Rd., Mint Hill, NC, followed by his funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Reverend Emily Owen will officiate. Interment will be in the Historic Matthews Cemetery, Matthews, NC.
Jim was preceded in death by two brothers, Bob and Bill Rowan, and two sisters, Francis Tanksley and Sarah Satterwhite.
