Born on July 26, 1950, Jimmy lived a life marked by steady devotion to family, pride in honest work, and a quiet strength that could be felt by all who knew him.
Jimmy attended Garringer High school in Charlotte, NC, where the early foundations of his work ethic and determination began to take shape—qualities that would remain constant throughout his life.
For 32 years, Jimmy built and led Starnes Truck Detailing, creating far more than a business. Through the years, employees and customers became family, drawn in by the care he showed, the high standards he held, and the respect he offered to others. Jimmy truly enjoyed going to “the shop” each day, and he took special pride in working side by side with his daughter—an everyday routine that reflected both his dedication and the deep value he placed on family.
Outside of work, Jimmy found his greatest joy in time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, making memories that will be carried forward with love. He also had a lasting passion for working on and rebuilding cars, a pursuit that suited his persistence and the satisfaction he found in doing things the right way. In quieter moments, he appreciated life’s simplest comforts, including the peace of sitting outside and watching the rain fall.
Jimmy will be remembered for his big heart, strong will, and the laughter he brought to those around him. A true perfectionist, he took great pride in his work and believed in doing things properly—never cutting corners, always giving his best. He was known for looking out for others, helping in any way he could, and lifting spirits with his jokes and humor. Above all, Jimmy will be remembered for the love he had for his family, especially his wife Lynn of 55 years, his two daughters, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and for the special love he held for his dogs.
Jimmy is survived by his wife, Lynn Barnes Starnes; his daughters, Stephanie Starnes Johnson and Michelle Starnes; his grandchildren Ted McManus, Joshua Johnson (Ariel), Antonio McManus (Lashay), Keaira McManus, Jacob Johnson (Ellie Graham), and Brianna McManus; and his great-grandchildren, Harmony Smith, Giselle McManus, Luna McManus, Jeremiah Johnson, Lorelai Johnson, Scottie Johnson and Nyomi Cole.
Jimmy was preceded in passing by his parents, Edwin and Margaret Starnes, as well as his brother, Eddie Starnes.
Visitation will be held at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Mint Hill, NC 28227, on Monday, November 2, 2026, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Funeral will follow at 1:00 pm in the chapel.
