June 4, 1954 – October 14, 2016
Jim Woody passed away peacefully after a brief battle with cancer early Friday morning at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center in Charlotte, surrounded by his loving family.
He will be deeply missed by his wife, his children and his community of friends. He is survived by his wife of 39 years Linda Woody, their daughter Ashley and her husband Addison Friedman, and son Justin and his wife Sara. He is also survived by his mother, Mary Lee Whisnant Woody and two sisters -- Judy Cairo and her husband Michael Simpson, and Joanne Oates. He was predeceased by his father, Joe Berry Woody.
Jim grew up in Forest City, NC, graduated from East Rutherford High School as class Valedictorian and from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with honors. He worked at Coca-Cola Bottling Company as a Senior Manager of Claims and Litigation for the past 18 years.
Jim’s effervescent spirit was infectious. He had a substantial intellect, a remarkable work ethic, and a gift with speech – he was a debater in high school that helped prepare him for his career. His positive attitude and skill as a “peacemaker” were an inspiration to all who knew him. He never met a stranger as he treated everyone with the respect of a friend.
Jim’s varied interests included sports, especially anything related to the Green Bay Packers or Duke, music, clock/watches, and technology. Jim excelled at everything he did – at settling work claims, at Fantasy Football, at growing and nurturing a strong, caring family. He was a man of strong spiritual faith.
A celebration of Jim’s life will be held at McEwen Funeral, Mint Hill, NC at 1:00 P. M. Wednesday, October 19, 2016 with Chaplain Valerie Williams officiating. The family will receive friends at McEwen starting at 11:00 A.M. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Kids Chance of South Carolina, PO Box 2957, Georgetown, SC 29442-2957, http://www.kidschancesc.org/, a children’s organization that Jim donated his time and efforts towards, or the Colon Cancer Alliance, http://www.ccalliance.org/.
