Jeffery Johnard Carter

Jeffery Johnard Carter, age 67, formerly of Gary, Indiana, and a beloved resident of Matthews, NC, lived a life marked by love, honesty, and a unique sense of humor that brought smiles and laughter to those around him. Born on March 2, 1958, Jeffery carried with him a distinctive blend of candor and charm, leaving a lasting impact wherever he went.

A proud graduate of Alabama Lutheran in Selma, Alabama, Jeffery valued education and cherished the knowledge gained throughout his life. He was an avid reader, finding solace and inspiration in the pages of books that fueled his imagination and intellect.

As a dedicated member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Columbus, Georgia, Jeffery’s faith was an integral part of his life. His commitment to his beliefs and his community reflected the depth of his character and the sincerity of his heart.

Jeffery will be remembered most for his weird and wonderful sense of humor, which was a testament to his ability to find joy in life’s quirks and share that joy with others. His love for his family, honesty in his words, and blunt yet caring nature made him truly unforgettable.

Jeffery’s legacy is one of laughter, love, and authenticity. He leaves behind treasured memories and a profound impact on his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He is survived by his wife, Teresa A. Carter; son, Ron C. Locklear (Jenny) of Matthews, North Carolina; grandchildren, Sequoia C. Locklear and Ron C. Locklear II; Aunts, Martha of Alabama and Centennial Lewis of Florida; brother, Marshall E. Carter; and a host of friends, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, William and Frances Carter; sister, Shirley C. Gessert; and brothers, William Carter Jr., Larry B. Carter, and Harold J. Carter.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Mint Hill, NC 28227, with a service to follow. Jeffery will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn East Cemetery, 3700 Forest Lawn Drive, Matthews, NC 28104.
