Jen went to be with the Lord on December 8, 2010 surrounded by her loved ones.
Jen was a beloved wife, wonderful mom, grandmother, great and great great grandmom. She was born May 3, 1918 in Derma, MS, daughter of Jodia Rhodes Brooks and Elizabeth Crumby Brooks Smith. She was predeceased by her husband, John “L” Hollimon. She is survived by her sister Rachel Smith Sykes of Starkville, MS, her daughters, Paula Richardson Hodges and husband, Dempsey of Matthews, Janet H. Scoggins of Charlotte and Mary Fitzgerald of Hiram, GA. Her sister, Mary Nell Brooks Denney of New Orleans predeceased her. Her grandchildren are Nolen and Stacey Richardson, Patrick Scoggins and fiancée, Jeannie Osborne, Alecia Richardson Barnette and husband, Marshall, Brent and Amanda Scoggins, Heather Hodges Lowe and husband, Brian, Shawn and Jennifer Richardson, Jimmy and Katie Fitzgerald, and Billy and Tinha Fitzgerald. She has 15 great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.
She was a longtime member of Matthews Presbyterian Church where she served as an elder, circle leader, taught Sunday school, was president of Prime Timers, and visited the sick and elderly until she was 90 years old. She was a member of The Order of the Eastern Star, Charlotte Woman’s Club, Mint Hill Chapter of the DAR, and John Lawson DAC putting others before herself. Her passions were her family, friends, bridge, and horticulture.
A celebration of her life will be held in the chapel of Matthews Presbyterian Church, 2:00 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010. The family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service in the church fellowship hall. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn East Cemetery.
