He was born on February 2, 1944, to the late George and Ruth Durkin.
Jerry was a dedicated, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose warmth, quick wit, and spirited nature touched everyone fortunate enough to know him. He lived a life marked by loyalty to his family, pride in his work, and an unshakeable enthusiasm for the things—and people—he loved.
Service & Education:
Proud of his roots and commitment to learning, Jerry earned his bachelor’s degree in business from Campbell University in Buies Creek, North Carolina. A true patriot, he answered the call to serve his country in the United States Air Force as a skilled airplane mechanic. His time in the USAF instilled in him a deep sense of discipline, pride, and meticulous attention to detail—qualities that defined everything he undertook throughout his life.
Passion, Loyalty & The Card Table:
Beyond his military service and professional endeavors, Jerry was an avid sports fan and a fiercely competitive soul. A die-hard supporter of his beloved Washington Redskins, Sunday game days were sacred, filled with passionate cheering and unwavering loyalty through every season. When he wasn't cheering on his team, Jerry was happiest at the card table enjoying a friendly—yet earnest—game of 21. True to his delightfully stubborn and determined nature, Jerry was always in it to win. He approached cards the same way he approached life: with sharp focus, joyful persistence, and a refusal to step away until he had built up a comfortable lead over his opponents. His laughter around the card table and his infectious drive made every game unforgettable.
Legacy & Family:
Above all else, Jerry’s heart belonged to his family. His love, laughter, and steadfast presence provided a bedrock for generations. His passion, loyalty, and joyful persistence leave behind a legacy that his family will cherish forever.
Along with his parents, Jerry is preceded in death by his loving wife, Frankie Durkin; and Rose Durkin. He is survived by his daughters, Michele Davis (Stephen) and Renee Dayton (Robert); grandchildren, Sydney Durbin (Chris), Christopher Durkin (Jordan), Antonio Ortiz, Cheyenne Dayton, Andrew Davis (Allison), and Madison Davis (Ty: fiance); great grandchildren, Harlynn Durbin, Kendal Durkin Cecilia Durbin, Jameson Durbin, Olivia Durkin, Savannah Durkin, Jericho Griffith, and Arabella Griffith; and sister, Claudia Demartini (Tom).
