

Jerry graduated from East Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte, NC and then served in the US Army. After serving his country, he had a 36 year career with the Charlotte Fire Department and retired as Station Commander. Jerry was active in his community with the Shriners. In addition to being on Drum and Bugle Corp, he was an active member of Joppa Lodge 530.
Jerry was a man of character and that was visible in his commitment to his family and his faith. He was a member of Newell Presbyterian Church. He led by example and always had everyone's best interest in mind. He was a friend to many and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Norma Sue McCorkle; his siblings, Cobb McCorkle, Bruce McCorkle, Ellis McCorkle, Hoyt McCorkle, Jannette Grossman, Beatrice Lefler, Polly Grubb, Gene McCorkle, and Betty Brown.
He is survived by his sons, Scott McCorkle (Kim) and Bradley McCorkle (Tatevik); his grandchildren, Hunter McCorkle, Maddy McCorkle, Ariana McCorkle, and Vienna McCorkle; and many other loving extended family members.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, January 7, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Charlotte, NC.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, January 8, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Newell Presbyterian Church, 1500 Rocky River Rd W, Charlotte, NC. A committal service will follow at Sharon Memorial Park, 5716 Monroe Rd, Charlotte, NC.
