

Jimmy D. Whetstone, 70, of Mint Hill, NC, died Thursday, July 19, 2013 at Carolinas Medical Center-Main. Born October 1, 1942 in Charlotte, NC, he was a son of the late Charlie Colson Whetstone and Eva Barr Whetstone.
Mr. Whetstone served in the U.S. Air Force. He worked as a meat cutter for Colonial Stores and Food Lion until his retirement. Later, he owned and operated Whetstone Landscaping. Mr. Whetstone found great pleasure in coaching youth sports. He also enjoyed farming and raising cattle.
Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Maxine Whetstone; two sons, Doug Whetstone and wife, Shelley, and Steve Whetstone and wife, Susan; and four grandchildren. Also surviving are his brother, Ronnie Whetstone of Myrtle Beach, SC; and two sisters, Helen Stewart and Patricia Gaddy, both of Charlotte.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 22, 2013, at Wilson Grove Baptist Church, with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. at the church. The Rev. Grant Hoffman will officiate. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens.
