John retired from JPMorgan Chase Bank where he worked as a mail operations manager. Prior to JPMorgan, John, never one to sit still, dabbled in a host of other careers, including starting his own commercial cleaning business. Most notable, was his time as a disc jockey for WBLS radio station in New York, and as the Operations and General Manager of the bowling center formerly at Madison Square Garden. After retirement John moved to Charlotte, NC in 2011 to be closer to family and help with his grandchildren. His grandchildren were his world, and he enjoyed spending time with them and family, continuing to “play” music, fixing and building things, and of course bowling… his favorite sport.
John is survived by his long-time spouse/partner of almost 40 years, Enid Valentine; his children, Lynnette Maldonado (Charlie), Cyeta Purnell, and Gregory Valentine, Jr. (Maelynn); his grandchildren, Ashleigh Maldonado, Charlie Maldonado Jr., Jayden Maldonado, Quentrell Valentine, Kendrick Valentine, and Brooklynn Dorton; his siblings, Barbara Purnell and Barry Purnell; and many other loving extended family members.
