

Born February 18, 1936, John was formerly of Berwick, Pennsylvania and Endicott, New York. He was a graduate of Berwick High School Class of 1954. John was a U.S. Army veteran having served from 1956 until 1960. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Charlotte.
John retired from IBM after 26 years of service and later retired from Lowe’s after 20 years of service.
John loved spending time with his wife and daughter. He enjoyed gardening and keeping a pristine lawn, winning “Yard of the Month” a time or two. John loved woodworking, traveling, and spending time with friends.
A loving person, John was a quiet, kind, and generous gentle soul and will be remembered for those things and more every day. He will be missed terribly by all who loved him.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Shirley and Mahlon D. Unger; his brother, William “Bill” Unger; and extended family members.
John is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Bettie Reynolds Unger; and his three children, Karen E. Luke and her husband, Chris, of Mint Hill, North Carolina, Debbie Engle and David Unger, both of Pennsylvania; and numerous grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters; and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
