

Joseph was born December 22, 1958 in Lebanon, KY. He graduated from Myers Park High School and retired after 20 years of service from Duke Power. After leaving Duke Power, he owned and operated The Dixie Grill and Grocery on Dixie River Road in Charlotte. He also ran Sun Kissed Tanning Salon on Little Rock Road in Charlotte for several years. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, NASCAR, and going to turkey shoots. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Lloyd Thompson, Sr.; grandparents, Preston and Jane Spalding and Albert Thompson and Sue Smith.
Survivors include his son, Justin Scott Thompson of Mint Hill; mother Edith Thompson; sister, Stacie (John) Poncer; and nephews, Eric and Grant Poncer, all of Matthews; and friend and former wife, Robin Thompson of Mint Hill.
The family will gather at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 3, 2014. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Sharon Memorial Park.
For those who desire, donations may be made to the Humane Society of Charlotte or to the St. Luke Catholic Church building fund.
