Karen was born on October 29, 1957 and was raised in Mt. Holly, NJ, where she met the love of her life and married soon after in 1974. After traveling across country with her mother-in-law, they chose to move to North Carolina. She had a maternal spirit, loved being a caretaker, and was always doing for others before herself. She became a CNA and worked in nursing homes and eventually became an at home caretaker for the elderly people that she knew. They all loved her, she was an angel to them. When all of her patients passed away, she worked at Showmars and would help her husband paint and clean houses for his business. Once Phat Daddy's opened, she worked side by side with her daughters for the last 13 years. She was known as MaMa Karen, The Sweet Little Lady at the register.
Karen loved vacations at the beach and Atlantic City where she and her husband would go at least once or twice a year. She loved every holiday, especially Christmas and always went all-out for everyone she loved. She always made sure there were gifts for everyone – she might have just met you but you better believe you'd be getting a gift! And if she found out you had a favorite candy or snack, or that there was something else you liked, she was sure to show up with it in hand for you. She was the most generous and kind-hearted person and would go without to make sure you had it! Her first and forever love was always her family, her husband and her 3 children and all of her grands and great grands. She loved taking care of all of them and spoiling them as much as she could.
A visitation for Karen will be held Monday, June 16, 2025 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Mint Hill, NC 28227, followed by a memorial service at 4:00 PM.
