Maria Alda Ornelas

Maria Alda Ornelas 81, passed away on April 10, 2017 at her home in Matthews NC. She was born in Funchal Madeira, Portugal on January 17, 1936 . She migrated to Canada and eventually to the United states. She was a factory worker in her earlier years . She was a house wife, and mother. She loved gardening and spending time with her family. She was loved by many family and friends.

She is predeceased by her mother Olinda Teixeira, father Joao Teixeira, and recently her sister Fernanda Teixeira.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years Joao R. Ornelas also from Matthews, NC; sons, John G. Ornelas from Pawtucket, RI, Mike Ornelas, Warwick RI, Paul Ornelas also from Pawtucket RI, and Luis Ornelas from Matthews NC; grandchildren, Tiffany Ornelas from Cranston RI, Justin Ornelas from Charlotte NC, Jordan Dumas and Jordan Ornelas both from Pawtucket RI., and one great grandchild, Harper Martel.

Maria is also survived by 5 siblings, Teresa Pacheco from Cumberland RI. , Olinda Teixeira and Joao Manuel Teixeira, from Mississauga Canada, Manuela Cativo and Maria F. Ornelas both from Pawtucket RI., and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation with the family will be held from 5-8pm, on Thursday, April 13, 2017, at McEwen Funeral Service- Mint Hill Chapel in Mint Hill. A funeral service will be at 11am on Friday, April 14, 2017 in the chapel of the funeral home. Burial will immediately follow the service in Sunset Memory Gardens, in Mint Hill.
