Marion Griffith Hammond

Born April 17, 1932 in Lancaster, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Marion Isaac Griffith and Ethel Johnson Griffith. Marion graduated from Lancaster High School and Anderson College in Anderson, South Carolina. She worked for Charlie Helms Builders for many years, and retired from the media center at Hickory Grove Baptist Church. Marion was a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church for 51 years, where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and was involved in missions organizations.

In addition to her parents, Marion was preceded in death by her sister, Doris Griffith Sowell, and a brother, William A. Griffith.

She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Bobby H. Hammond, whom she married June 2, 1963; her son, Robert H. Hammond and wife, Wendy, of Locust, North Carolina; her daughter, Jan Hammond Faulk and husband, David, of Mint Hill, North Carolina; her grandchildren, Andrew Faulk, Steven Hammond and Timothy Hammond; and a brother, George Griffith of Columbia, South Carolina.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Friday, June 27, 2014, in the worship center at Hickory Grove Baptist Church, with a funeral service immediately following at 12:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hickory Grove Baptist Church Media Center, 6050 Hickory Grove Road, Charlotte, North Carolina 28215, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
