With deep love and gratitude, we celebrate the life of Martha Waters Hood, a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend who brought light, creativity, and kindness to everyone she met. Martha passed away peacefully on November 22, 2025, at the age of 88, in her longtime community of Mint Hill, North Carolina.
Her Life & Legacy
Born on November 1, 1937, Martha built a life grounded in love, service, and family. She began her professional journey at BellSouth, where she worked until the arrival of her children. Embracing motherhood with her whole heart, she spent many years at home nurturing her family. As her children grew, Martha reinvented herself with grace and purpose, starting a small cleaning business that she ran with pride and dedication.
A Creative Spirit
Martha had a remarkable artistic soul. She delighted in sewing clothes for her children, crafting quilts that became cherished family heirlooms, and expressing her creativity in countless small, meaningful ways. An avid reader, she found joy in stories, ideas, and the quiet company of a good book.
Guiding and Giving
Her generosity of spirit extended beyond her home. As a Girl Scout leader, Martha encouraged young girls to learn, grow, and find confidence in themselves. Her steady guidance and warm presence made a lasting impact on many lives.
Family Above All
Martha’s greatest joy was her family. She is lovingly remembered by her son Benjamin Hood and his wife Kim, of Wingate, NC; her daughter Elizabeth Hood, of Matthews, NC; and her treasured grandchildren Kylie Faith Hood (Andrew Hurtado), Rory, and Benjamin Hood. To them, she was a source of comfort, inspiration, and unconditional love.
Forever in Our Hearts
Martha’s legacy lives on in the beauty she created, the love she gave, and the countless memories shared by those who knew her. Her presence will be deeply missed but forever felt in the lives she touched.
