Martha Lancaster Widders

Martha Lancaster Widders, 68, died Sunday, March 23, 2014 while in the care of Harris Hospice at Novant Presbyterian Hospital.

Martha was born September 6, 1945 in Fayetteville, daughter of the late Kenneth Carlyle Lancaster and Ida Kay Hair Lancaster. She was Methodist by faith and graduated from Methodist University in Fayetteville. Martha taught in the Cumberland County and Charlotte Mecklenburg School systems for many years and then went on to substitute at Bain Elementary in Mint Hill.

Survivors include her husband John Widders; children, John Carlyle Widders and his wife, Allison and Robert Martin Widders, and his wife, Holly; grandchildren, Luke John Widders, Austin Robert Widders, and Ella Grace Widders; a brother, Kenneth Carlyle Lancaster, Jr. and his wife, Carolyn; a sister, Harriet Lancaster Jeffords, and her husband, Edwin; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will gather at the funeral home to receive friends at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2014. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. in the Chapel with the Rev. Peggy Bridgers officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to either the American Heart Association (heart.org) or Novant Hospice and Palliative Care.
