She was born on January 21, 1940, in Cambria County, PA, to Theresa (Tresky) Kirsch and John Marlin Kirsch. She was the eldest of 9 siblings: Robert Kirsch, Stanton Kirsch, Elizabeth Couture, Carol Shook, Margaret Nelson, Wilfred Kirsch, Kenneth Kirsch, and Regina Kline.
Mary earned her teaching certificate at Mount Aloysius College, Cresson, PA and taught elementary school for many years. Her adventures began when she wed Martin W. Angebranndt, on June 15, 1963, and together they lived throughout the U.S., including Memphis, TN, Richmond, VA, Paducah, KY, Dale City, VA, Nashua, NH, Chandler, AZ, Austin, TX, Corpus Christi, TX, and finally Charlotte, NC. They also explored abroad with trips to Europe, Mexico and Canada. Mary always said, “There are nice people everywhere”, and made new friends wherever she went. She liked to entertain friends over dinner, soak up the sun by the pool, and listen to the ocean surf for hours.
Mary is survived by her husband of 59 years, Martin W. Angebranndt of Charlotte, NC, their son, Martin J. Angebranndt and his wife, Jennifer of Arlington, VA, and their daughter, Melanie Schroepfer and her husband, Todd of Mint Hill, NC. Children were Mary’s greatest joy and she hosted Camp Grandma each summer with her grandchildren, all who survive her: Danielle (and Bryan) Chapman, Lauren Schroepfer, Collin Angebranndt, and Mari Angebranndt. She also delighted in her great-grandchildren: Addison, Jonah and Oliver Chapman.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Mikki Buff, and all the caregivers at Waltonwood Providence for their kindness, support and compassionate care.
A service to celebrate Mary’s life will be held on Monday, December 5, 2022 at 10:00am at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church 1400 Suther Rd, Charlotte, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Hospice and Palliative Care Charlotte Region.
