Mary Pearl Lemmond, 81, passed away August 24, 2026. Mary was a resident of Matthews, North Carolina. Born September 25, 1944, she lived with a joyful sense of purpose and a warmth that drew people close—marked by a generous heart, a happy spirit, and a laugh that could brighten a room.
Mary graduated from South Mecklenburg High School, class of 1962, and attended Central Piedmont Community College. Her career reflected determination and self-reliance; she worked hard to support herself, and did so with notable success.
An executive secretary by profession, Mary built a career across banking, real estate, and insurance. In every setting, she brought diligence and capability, earning respect through consistent effort.
Outside of work, Mary found delight in the pastimes that made life richer. She enjoyed watching and playing golf, and she was an avid bridge player. She also played the piano well, bringing music into the rhythm of everyday life. Mary’s compassion was especially evident in her love for animals; over her lifetime she adopted many dogs and cats, extending care and love to those who truly needed it.
Mary’s faith and community were important to her. At Albemarle Road Presbyterian Church, she sang in the choir, offering her voice in service and fellowship.
Mary is survived by her brother, Donald Lemmond, and sister Carolyn Lemmond Britt.
She was preceded in passing by her parents, Joseph and Agnes McKinney Lemmond, and by two of her siblings, Betty Jo Lemmond Werts and Larry Lemmond.
