She graduated from Wingate College, Wingate, NC, in 1943. Afterwards, she was employed by Mill Power Co. and then Queen City Coach Co., both in Charlotte.
Mary married Lester Hunter Yandle, Jr. (L. H.) June 25, 1944. She continued working until the birth of their daughter, Patsy, in 1950.

Mary and L.H. enjoyed traveling to Carolina's beaches and spending time with their family at their home on Lake Norman. They also loved traveling with the senior adults of the church and the Happy Times Club.
Mary was an active member of First Baptist Church of Matthews and a member of her beloved Philathea-Dorcas Sunday School Class.
