

Mike received his professional architecture degree from Kent State University in 1978. He and his wife, Becky, moved to Charlotte that same year. He was currently employed with Family Dollar Stores as Divisional Vice-President of Store Planning. Mike was an avid golfer and was particularly proud of two hole-in-ones at Pine Lake CC, where he was a member. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends.
He was survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Becky Maloney; his father, Gerald Maloney and wife, Dorothea, of Columbus, OH; his mother, Kay Murray and husband, Ray Kersey, of Durham, NC; his brothers, Murray Maloney and wife, Lori, of San Diego, CA, and Matthew Maloney and wife, Yana, of Burlingame, CA; nephews, David Abecassis and Alexander Maloney and nieces, Sydney and Jackie Maloney.
A service to celebrate Mike’s life will be held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, May 4 at McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews Mint-Hill Road. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, it was Mike’s wish that donations may be made to the Kidney Cancer Association, 1234 Sherman Avenue, Suite 203, Evanston, IL 60202-1375 or KidneyCancer.org.
The family would like to thank Mint Hill Fire and Rescue for their efforts. Also, a special thanks to Dr. Amin and the doctors and staff of the Blumenthal Cancer Center for all their years of care and support.
