

Millard Howell Tubbs of Charlotte, affectionately known as “Bubba“ by his friends and family, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, February 4, 2014. He was originally from Birmingham, Alabama where he grew up in West End, a suburb of Birmingham. He excelled in athletics at West End High school and in college at Auburn University, where he played both quarterback in football and centerfield in baseball.
Bubba is best remembered for ending the long losing streak to Georgia Tech and never losing to Alabama in either sport. He excelled in the business world as well, starting at Air Engineers, Chevrolet, and retirement from General Motors after 36 years. He moved to Charlotte where he enjoyed golfing with many friends.
Millard is preceded in death by his father, Walter Simpson Tubbs; his mother Virginia Tubbs Aloia; and a sister, Sara Frances McKnight. He is survived by his wife, Betty Tubbs; a son, Howell Alan Tubbs; a step-daughter, Dawn Hansmann Ziblay (Ricky); and a grandson, Raymond Jacob Ziblay.
One last “War Eagle for Bubba!” The family would like to thank all of the wonderful nurses and staff at Tucker Hospice House, and Novant Hospice.
A service to celebrate Bubba’s life will be held Saturday, Febuary 8, at 11:00a.m with a visitation to follow at McEwen Funeral Service – Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews – Mint Hill Road, Mint Hill, NC 28227. Memorial contributions may be made to Tucker Hospice House, 5005 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081
