On Wednesday, June 27, 2018, Myrtle Barrington “Mutcie” Newell of Charlotte, NC passed away after a long battle with cancer. She was born in Bennettsville, SC, and graduated from McColl School in McColl, SC. She was employed at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, NC from 1957 – 2014 in a job she dearly loved. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald R. Newell of Charlotte, sister, Bonnie Davis of Cheraw, SC, brothers, Tommy Barrington of Dallas, TX, and Donnie Barrington of Bennettsville, SC. Mutcie raised three wonderful daughters, Donna Newell Johnson, Lisa Newell Snipes, and Andrea Newell Harvey, and helped to raise four grandsons, Wesley Sean Stephens, Jacob Newell Lilieholm, Taylor Blake Harvey, and Colby Russell Thorne. She also attended Kings College. Mutcie was a bright shining star and was loved and cherished by all who knew her. She loved music, dancing, and North Myrtle and Ocean Isle Beaches, attending concerts and Broadway plays. Mutcie leaves behind a legacy of being a mother figure to many throughout the years. She was kind, generous, never met a stranger and saw the good in everyone. She has truly left a huge void in the Charlotte community and among her friends and family.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from one o'clock until two-thirty in the afternoon on Friday, June 29, 2018, at McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road in Mint Hill, NC, with her funeral service to immediately follow at two-thirty in the funeral home chapel. The Reverend Leland K. Stephens will officiate. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens in Mint Hill, NC.
