Ms. Humble was a native of Guilford County and a member of Indian Trail Presbyterian Church. Fondly referred to by her family as Ms. “Annie Oakley,” she was first a homemaker and then employed with Belk of Charlotte in the late 50’s and 60’s. She loved to bowl and always took home the best sportsmanship award. She loved music, especially gospel, and played the piano by ear. One of her unknown acts of kindness was in the early days after WWII, Ms. Humble and her husband would go to the 36th Street area, now known as “NoDa,” on Friday nights and treat under privileged folks, mostly children, with their daughter’s asthma medicine. Ms. Humble was known to bake the best coconut cakes and fried apple pies and would say, “Come and sit a spell on the porch with me.” She was always the helper and supporter of her small family and will forever live in her family’s hearts.
She is survived by her daughter, Barb; grandchildren, Patrick and wife, Christie, Treva, Paula and Beverly; great-grandchildren, Cole and fiancée, Peyton, and Preston; great-great-granddaughter, Ava; and nephews, Jerry Smith and wife, Patsy, and Gary Humble.
The family is grateful to all the hospice and Monroe Manor staffs for their love and care. They also offer a special thank you to Treva Lynn for her kindness.
Arrangements under the direction of McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel, Mint Hill, NC.
